Power converter is one of the weakest parts of switched reluctance drives system. In order to improve the reliability and fault tolerance of the drive system, this paper takes deeply look in asymmetrical half-bridge power converter to respectively present different on-line fault tolerant control methods for open-circuit and short-circuit fault of power converter. For short-circuit occurred on chopper tube, working status of two power tubes are regulated mutually. For shortcircuit occurred on closed tube, the current of fault phase is regulated through a controller optimized by bacterial foraging algorithm (BFA). For open-circuit occur on power tube, conduction angles of normal phases are regulated. The simulation and experimental results show that these presented control methods can achieve fault tolerance timely according to the fault diagnosis details, and the effects of fault tolerance are very well, that avoiding serious consequences caused by faulted running.
